Exercise Fitness

How Yuelu turns your workout heart-rate data into an exercise fitness estimate, what it means for daily life, and how to improve it.

Exercise Fitness

Exercise fitness reflects how well your cardiovascular and metabolic systems respond to physical activity. Yuelu derives it from the heart-rate recordings during your workouts, comparing how your heart performs now against your own longer-term baseline.

The result is a fitness suggestion, not a medical diagnosis.

What It Explains

During each workout, your heart rate reveals how efficiently your body delivers oxygen and clears metabolites. Yuelu examines your heart-rate response, recovery pattern, and sustained effort, then combines them into a single fitness estimate that moves with your training habits over weeks and months.

Why It Needs Time

The system needs at least 14 days of data and 5 completed workout sessions before it can produce a reliable fitness estimate. During this initial period, the fitness display shows "Insufficient data" — this is expected and means the baseline is still being established.

Reading Your Score

The fitness score is presented as a trend:

  • Improving — your heart-rate response is becoming more efficient; your body recovers faster and holds effort longer.
  • Stable — your fitness level is holding steady; maintain your current routine.
  • Declining — your heart-rate response is becoming less efficient; consider lighter days and review your recovery habits.

What It Means for Daily Life

Exercise fitness is not just a number on the screen — it reflects how your body handles everyday physical demands:

  • Climbing stairs — better fitness means less breathlessness and faster recovery after a few flights.
  • Carrying groceries or luggage — a stronger cardiovascular system makes sustained effort feel easier.
  • Playing with kids or pets — you can stay active longer without feeling drained.
  • Handling unexpected exertion — when you need to rush or lift something heavy, your body responds with less strain.

In short, higher exercise fitness means your body has more reserve for the things that matter, and daily activities feel less taxing.

How to Improve Exercise Fitness

Improving fitness doesn't require extreme training — it comes from consistent, moderate habits:

  • Move regularly — aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate activity most days. Brisk walking, cycling, or swimming all count.
  • Mix intensities — most sessions should feel comfortable, but include occasional harder efforts (like a faster pace or hill) to challenge your cardiovascular system.
  • Prioritize recovery — sleep well and allow rest days. Fitness improves during recovery, not during the workout itself.
  • Be consistent over time — fitness builds gradually. A few weeks of regular training will show more improvement than sporadic intense sessions.
  • Listen to your body — if you feel unusually fatigued, take a lighter day. Pushing through exhaustion rarely improves fitness and often leads to setbacks.

What It Does Not Replace

Exercise fitness is a training-context signal, not a medical assessment. It does not account for nutrition, hydration, stress, illness, or how you subjectively feel. Use it as one input alongside your own judgment — not as a prescription.
